Here are a few photos of the Jersey Buff or Bourbon Red turkey hen that's been running amuck on Oglethorpe Mountain. I have been trying to get photos of her for quite some time now. I did my homework and found out that this is a domestic breed of turkey that somehow got released and has now taking up refuge with our wild stock.
She is very beautiful, but I wonder if interbreeding will have an adverse effect on our 'wilds'.

Good friend. Good 'Ol Blu.
How many people do you know that can say they sat with a large eight point buck, in the forest, as he enjoyed his naptime in the afternoon Autumn sunshine? Well . . . . . that would be me and I'd like you to meet, 'Ol Blu. He's a very impressive "eight pointer" that I regularly encounter as I venture through 'our' wild outback.
Last year, I noticed his right eye had been injured and it had a bluish cast to it, so that's how I dubbed him, 'Ol Blu. He's the 'big monster' that scared the other deer away in my earlier video (see my "Spoiled Rotten" entry).
I'm pretty sure his impaired eyesite hasn't impaired his ability to be a daddy. He patrols his territory diligently. LOOK OUT, Patches!!!

Even though he's a big intimadating fella, he still shares his domain with a few other awsome bucks like, Tripod, our three legged resident, shown below. He's a four year old whitetail that I encounter in the wood quite often. But, please don't feel bad for Tripod. He get's around very well and can really 'get up and go' when he wants to! Zoom, zoom, zoom!

This female Black Bear was cruising thru the neighborhood, via the Shines backyard on a late September afternoon. She was out foraging for food early to 'fatten up' before winter. A very good acorn crop this year has the bears coats nicely thickened up and putting on a beautiful shine!
Check out these short video clips of her:

This just in..................
Patches the Piebald Doe has had a fawn. See it for yourself:
The first pix I took on June 30, 2008
I took this Family Portrait last week. The fawn is now 2½ months old and is almost as big as mom, Patches! GrandMommie Deerest must be very proud! I was thinking of naming the new one "Stitches" because of this photo. Look down it's back. Get it? Patches and Stitches. Well? Let me know what you think...

Come on babies!!!. They are so sweet!
(sorry about the Micky Mouse voice I used)
Then "HE" showed up and everyone else made room for him! Lots of room!!! They all left.
It's hard for 'Ol Blu to make friends these days!
This LARGE herd of 20 came thru the yard this morning! Kinda hard to see them all cuz they blend in well. This is the largest number I've had show up.

This little beauty knows the sound of my voice
and comes when I call her. It has taken me
a year to get to this point with her. Yesterday,
she came down the mountain, all by herself, to
check me out. Several minutes later, Mommie
Deerest came, from the opposite direction,
to see if she might be missing something.

This is Patches. She is a piebald whitetail deer. Although she is very pretty, this is not a desired trait. It is thought to be caused by overcrowded deer populations, which is the case here in Bent Tree, Jasper, GA. I will post more pix and video if you'd like to see more of her...
Please scroll down for videos or look thru my video files for Patches and other Bent Tree wildlife.
Thank you for stopping by and please check back often
There will be plenty more to follow...
